Help with Kelikello

Most questions are answered below. If yours is not, write to support@the-hangover.company and include your watch model and watchOS version.

Moving between the four pages

Kelikello is four pages stacked vertically. Turn the Digital Crown, or swipe up and down, to move between them; the title at the top tells you which one you are on.

  1. Conditions: the place, a large temperature, the sky right now, today’s high and low, and the feels-like temperature.
  2. Hourly: the next 12 hours, hour by hour. A chance of rain appears beside the hour when it is 30 % or more.
  3. Daily: today and the next two days, each with a bar showing where its low and high sit within the three-day range.
  4. Details: wind with its compass point, rain chance and millimetres, humidity, the nearest station’s observation and gusts, the time of the last update and the FMI attribution.

The background follows the sky: blue in daylight, slate under cloud, navy at night or in rain. It turns black when your wrist is down or when Increase Contrast is on in Accessibility settings.

Adding a place

Kelikello starts with My Location. To add a fixed place, such as a summer cottage or the city you commute to:

  1. Open Kelikello and tap the list button in the top-right corner. A sheet titled Location opens with My Location and your saved places.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Add Place. Municipalities are listed by default, nearest first.
  3. Start typing to search neighbourhoods, villages and islands too. Finnish and Swedish names both work, and you can leave out ä, ö and å.
  4. Tap a result. It is saved and shown immediately on every page and complication.

To switch between saved places, open the Location sheet and tap one. To remove a saved place, swipe it to the left. My Location cannot be removed; if you deny location access it stays empty until you choose a place.

Adding complications to a watch face

  1. On the watch, touch and hold the current face, then tap Edit.
  2. Swipe left until the complication slots are highlighted.
  3. Tap a slot, scroll to Kelikello and pick a kind: Conditions, Hourly, Temperature, Rain, Wind or Humidity.
  4. Press the Digital Crown to save. On iPhone, the same slots are in the Watch app under Face Gallery or My Faces.

Each kind is available in the families the slot supports: circular, corner, inline and the rectangular Smart Stack card. Hourly is rectangular only. Every complication shows the place currently selected in the app; change it there and all complications follow.

If a complication shows a dash or old data right after installing, open the app once so it can fetch a report and pass it to the complications.

Why the observation differs from the forecast

The big number on the Conditions page is the forecast for the current hour at the exact coordinate of your place. The observation is on the Details page: Observed 16°, then the station’s name, for example Kaisaniemi, its distance from your place and the time of the reading (1.3 km · 17:00), and the gusts it measured. It is a real measurement from the nearest FMI weather station.

The two can legitimately disagree. The station may be on the coast while you are inland, or on an airfield while you are among buildings; the forecast covers the whole hour while the reading is from minutes ago. Kelikello shows both and names the station, so you can judge which one fits your spot. A large, persistent gap usually means the nearest station is far away; check the distance on the Details page.

Background refresh on watchOS

There is no refresh button. The app fetches new data whenever it opens or returns to the foreground, unless its data is less than ten minutes old, and then updates every complication.

While the app is closed, watchOS wakes it for a background refresh only if a Kelikello complication is on the active face, and only a few times an hour at most. Kelikello asks for a wake-up about every 30 minutes, but the system decides when it happens, based on battery, activity and how often you look at the complication.

  • Complication timelines contain one entry per hour, so the displayed hour advances without a refresh.
  • If complications look old, opening the app forces a fetch.
  • Low Power Mode on the watch pauses background refresh for all apps.
  • Complications on faces that are not active are not refreshed in the background.

Purchases and refunds

Kelikello is a one-time purchase of €2.99 (local prices vary) with no in-app purchases. Apple sells the app and handles payment and refunds, so we cannot see your purchase or refund it ourselves. If something is broken, tell us first so we can fix it; to request a refund, use Apple’s Report a Problem. The full details are on Purchases and refunds.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the iPhone app?

There is no iPhone app. Kelikello installs directly on the watch, from the App Store on the watch or from the Watch app on your iPhone. Nothing is installed on the phone.

Why is my neighbourhood forecast the same as the city’s?

FMI’s point forecast is a gridded product interpolated to the coordinate you ask about. Across a city the values are nearly identical, so the neighbourhood mostly changes the label and the exact point. The observation, from a real station, is what differs.

Can I pick a different place for each complication?

No. All complications follow the place currently shown in the app. Switch the place in the app and every complication updates together, which keeps a face consistent.

What are the times shown?

Finnish local time (Europe/Helsinki), whatever your watch’s time zone, because the forecast is for a Finnish place.

Does it work outside Finland?

The place list and the forecast cover Finland. Abroad, My Location will not find a place to name, but your saved Finnish places keep working.

Is there a subscription?

No. Kelikello costs €2.99 once on the App Store (local prices vary by country). There are no in-app purchases.

Which watches are supported?

Any Apple Watch that runs watchOS 10 or later. Each complication kind appears in the families the chosen face slot supports; the rectangular card also shows in the Smart Stack.

How do I request a refund?

Apple handles refunds. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account and choose the purchase. More on Purchases and refunds.
